The Camping Leader qualification, accredited by Mountain Training, is designed for individuals who want to lead camping experiences for groups in lowland terrain. Whether you’re a teacher, outdoor instructor, or group leader, this nationally recognised qualification equips you with the skills to organize safe, enjoyable, and impactful camping trips.

If you already hold a Lowland Leader qualification, the Camping Leader builds on your existing skills. 

What You’ll Learn 

This hands-on qualification focuses on leading camping experiences, including: 

  • Campcraft Skills: Learn to set up and manage campsites, including pitching tents, cooking outdoors, and using camping equipment safely. 
  • Group Management: Develop strategies for leading groups in a camping environment, ensuring safety and creating positive experiences. 
  • Navigation for Campsites: Improve your navigation skills to locate suitable camping spots and manage access rights responsibly. 
  • Environmental Awareness: Understand how to camp responsibly, leaving minimal impact on the environment. 

Upon completion, you’ll be qualified to lead camping trips for groups in lowland terrain, with the confidence and competence to handle a variety of situations. 

Campsite fun

The Camping Leader qualification involves two main stages: 

1 . Training 

A course that introduces the core skills and knowledge required for leading camping groups. 

2. Assessment

After completing the training and gaining additional experience, you’ll undertake an assessment to demonstrate your competence.

Pre-requisites: 

  • Registration with Mountain Training 
  • Experience of leading or assisting in camping trips 
  • Experienced Instructors: Learn from highly qualified instructors with extensive camping and group leadership experience.
  • Hands-On Learning: Our courses emphasize real-world scenarios to build confidence and capability.
  • Ongoing Support: We guide you through every step, from training to assessment.

You should have some experience leading or assisting with camping trips.
